Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Goma

You will be met by your driver guide at Kigali International Airport or at your agreed point of pick up in Kigali to start off your 3 days mount nyiragongo hiking tour. Depending on what time you arrive, you will go for a short city tour visiting the Genocide Memorial Centre and Kimironko market in Kigali.

Have lunch then cross into Congo through Goma border and check in with the tourism office for your volcano permit that will permit you to hike the Nyiragongo. Dinner and overnight at Ihusi Hotel/ La Joie Plaza Hotel/ Lac Kivu Hotel. Please note that your Rwanda Visa expires immediately you cross into Congo so it is advisable to re apply at the Congo Border and find it ready on your return.

Day 2 Nyiragongo Hike

After an early breakfast, you will meet your driving guide to resume your 3-day adventure to Mount Nyiragongo. He or she will take you to Kibati, where your hike will begin. After receiving a briefing, you will meet your trek guide and porter and begin your five-hour ascent of this volcanic peak.

If you purchase the Mount Nyiragongo Backpack, meals will be provided. The hike is worthwhile because of the magnificent vista at the top. The summit shelters will be your home for the evening. As these shelters only have a bed and mattress, be sure to bring or rent a sleeping bag.

Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo

Your three-day trip of Mount Nyiragongo will come to a close when you descend it. You'll arrive in Kibati about 11 a.m. and join with your driver-guide there to continue your transfer back to Kigali via the Goma border. You'll arrive in Kigali in the late afternoon or evening, and you'll be dropped off at the airport or another mutually agreed-upon location.
